About 500 meters off the coast at La Gaulette
(South West of Mauritius) is Ile aux Bénitiers.
It is a large coral sand island approximately two
kilometers long and 500 meters at its widest point and
65 hectares in area.
The island itself has very little biodiversity value since it
has a highly modified vegetative cover and is used as a
coconut plantation. Since 1927 the islet has been leased to
a private company that tends the coconut plantations there.
On the northern tip of the island there is a small colony
of migratory sea birds.
We organize various trips to visit Ile Aux Benitiers, along your trip you can visit the ‘Crystal Rock’ which is a small coral island where you can climb to take photos. The island inhabits a large variety of different species of sea birds. Ile aux Benitiers is well-known with its surrounded lagoons which is shallow with a large variety of colorful corals.
This small islet is a popular site for local and tourists alike. A trip to Ile Aux Benitiers will allow you to discover the wide ranges of the mountains which nearly reach the shore and the sea which is rich of different kinds of fishes.
Depending on weather conditions, we organize daily excursion to watch dolphins which had chosen the western part of Mauritius as resting, hunting and breeding place After spending some times with the dolphins, You'll discover the pristine marine flora and fauna of this part of Mauritius which is, up to now, still preserved from any sort of industrialized domestic pollution.
You will also be served a barbecued lunch of fish and chicken accompanied with rice and Mauritian sauces among others. The day will continue with sailing and snorkeling into our natural swimming pool where the lagoon is of an incredible limpidity. The beautiful green sceneries of the south west mountain range and the Morne mountain will definitively add a plus to your holiday memories about the island.
The cruise:-
The cruise itself starts at 09:00 am, with a light breakfast served on the catamaran just before heading to Tamarin Bay area for an encounter with dolphins. This is a once in a lifetime experience to see these magnificent mammals in their natural habitat.
Then the catamaran, heading to Benitiers island, will cruise along the west coast and stop for snorkeling on the coral reef near La Preneuse, followed by other breaks in some other key locations to swim or enjoy the sun and drinks on board the catamaran.
The catamaran will then dock in the most beautiful lagoon of the south-west coast, not far from the crystal rock and Island of Benitiers for lunch.
After lunch you can enjoy some relaxation time - have the leisure to tan, walk along the endless beaches of Benitiers Island or explore the amazing lagoons and coral reefs.
